Set in Boston’s historic North End, Bricco offers a modern take on traditional Italian cuisine in a boutique setting. On a recent trip to Boston, my family and I visited the popular award-winning restaurant, helmed by renowned restaurateur Frank DePasquale, and thoroughly enjoyed the venue’s warm atmosphere and delicious food after a long day exploring the city.
While sipping on glasses of Sangiovese from Bricco’s extensive list of Italian and American wines and people-watching through its floor-to-ceiling windows, we plotted our dining experience, planning to share its very generous portions. From its authentic Italian menu, we chose signature dishes including octopus dry-roasted with ginger; zucchini flowers; handmade pappardelle with wild boar sauce; gnocchi baked with bufala mozzarella, fresh basil and tomatoes; seared duck with sweet and sour mango soy sauce; and veal osso buco served with traditional saffron risotto.
My personal favorites were the zucchini flowers, stuffed with creamy truffle ricotta and dipped in light tempura for a golden fried finish, and the wild boar pasta braised in red wine with porcini mushrooms. I haven’t enjoyed both dishes since my time in Italy, so I was delighted both were perfectly cooked and flavorful, bringing back happy travel memories.
Along with our food, the service at Bricco was incredible. Our waiter was attentive enough without being overbearing, providing excellent menu suggestions and wine pairings as well as a complimentary dessert to celebrate my birthday. Though we were all excited to wander through the neighborhood’s bustling Italian festival taking place outside to find cannoli for dessert, we happily indulged in Bricco’s bread pudding, with vanilla pudding and tasty caramel sauce, and homemade gelato for a rich finish to an amazing meal.
