It was an absolute pleasure to celebrate the opening of the Andaz Wall Street this week with my colleagues Kim Krol and Dick Evans. When I arrived downtown it was great to see Wall Street bustling once again. Even given my poor sense of direction in that area, it was quite easy to find the property. The event was spectacular and left me in anticipation of Global Traveler‘s award ceremony next week. The food was to die for, with hors d’oeuvres such as lamb’s cheek, scallops and sweet potatoes and foie gras. I can’t forget to mention one of mine and Kim’s personal favorites — the baked cheese puffs! Food and entertainment flowed from the hotel’s restaurant to the lower lobby, connected by a white luminous marble staircase. We watched several artists create paintings, which I assume will adorn the hotel walls, live. The energy was positive and the service was excellent. Plates and glasses were collected promptly, and we didn’t encounter a single server who didn’t smile and inquire about the service, food and our overall satisfaction. It seemed as though everyone was happy to bring business back to Wall Street. My parents waited too long to extend their stay at the hotel next weekend — the Andaz is already booked solid! This was great to hear.
