Sometimes the best vacations aren’t the longest ones. Sometimes all you need is three nights at sea to disconnect, recharge and remember why you love cruising.

My husband and I recently sailed aboard Celebrity Reflection on a quick getaway from Fort Lauderdale, with stops in Key West and Nassau before returning home. This was our second time sailing this itinerary, having previously cruised it on Celebrity Silhouette. After sailing on six different cruise lines over the last several years, Celebrity Cruises has become one of my favorites.

We boarded around noon so we could start our weekend getaway as early as possible. Like every cruise, we have a routine: check in at our muster station, grab a quick bite to eat, stop at the nearest bar for our first tropical cocktail (we always get the drink package), then explore the ship before heading to our stateroom to unpack, change into our swimsuits and find a spot by the pool to enjoy the sail-away party as we depart Fort Lauderdale.

For this sailing we stayed in a Veranda Stateroom, which reminded me why a balcony is always worth it. Every morning began with coffee on our balcony overlooking the ocean, while every evening ended watching the sunset before dinner. Those quiet moments at sea are one of my favorite parts of cruising.

The main pool deck was another favorite, especially while we were in port. We like to explore each destination, but we also prefer to spend the mornings wandering the ports, then head back to the ship well before most passengers return. Having the pool nearly to ourselves for a few hours felt like having our own private resort, complete with attentive drink service.

The ship itself is beautiful from every angle. The glass elevators provide panoramic views as they travel through the atrium, and everywhere you turn there are inviting seating areas and contemporary artwork that give Reflection a sophisticated yet comfortable feel.

Dining was another highlight of the cruise. We had a designated table for two each evening with the same waitstaff, one of my favorite parts of traditional dining. By the second night they already knew our preferences, and by the end of the cruise it felt like we were saying goodbye to friends. That’s one of the things I love most about cruising: the genuine connections the crew creates with guests.

The Oceanview Café offers an incredible variety with dedicated stations featuring cuisines from around the world. Whether you’re craving Greek, Italian, Indian or classic American favorites, there’s something for everyone. From freshly carved meats and made-to-order pasta to pizza, fresh salads and endless desserts, it’s easy to see why it’s one of my favorite buffet experiences at sea. Since we were sailing over Father’s Day weekend, the Café featured a festive spread that included an impressive shrimp display, a beautifully decorated Father’s Day cake and a flowing chocolate fountain accompanied by fresh fruit for dipping.

Of course, no cruise is complete without a few great cocktails. Each evening we found ourselves back at the Martini Bar & Crush, one of Celebrity’s signature venues. Famous for its ice-topped bar and energetic bartenders, it’s one of the liveliest gathering places on board and the perfect spot to enjoy a pre-dinner drink while taking in the atmosphere.

Another favorite was the Sky Observation Lounge. We often ended our evenings there after the nightly production shows, enjoying cocktails while watching guest game shows and live entertainment. Our favorite bartenders, Shacks and Tapiwa (pictured), always greeted us with a smile and somehow remembered exactly what we liked to drink after only a day or two on board. It’s those personal touches that make Celebrity’s service stand out.

From the dining room to the bars and housekeeping staff, the crew consistently went above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome.

Three nights may not seem like much, but Celebrity Reflection reminded me that even a short cruise can feel like a true vacation. Between the elegant atmosphere, exceptional dining, attentive service and beautiful public spaces, it was exactly the refreshing break from reality we needed. The only downside? Three nights simply weren’t enough.
