I arrived yesterday after a rather long travel day, flying from Philadelphia to Toronto to Vancouver and finally to Seoul. I was excited to take Air Canada’s award-winning business class (Global Traveler has voted Air Canada the Best Airline in North America for many years) to Incheon. Once on board my flight, I had a beautiful plan to enjoy the dinner service and then fall asleep for the entire flight. I am pleased to say I succeeded and was able to sleep for a good 6–8 hours. I then had to go through security and immigration like a normal traveler, though I usually have the VIP line and am escorted through! This extra time added at least an hour and was very unusual for Incheon. Fortunately, my driver from Lotte Hotel was waiting, and I was able to meet my colleague for a late and short dinner. Jeff Hwang, GT‘s local representative in Korea, met us with his young family for dinner, which was a real treat. This morning, we stopped in to see the Grand Hyatt Incheon as they just opened their new west wing. The property now boasts 1,025 guestrooms, with 31 suites and 31 residences (one- and two-bedrooms) for long-erm guests in the new wing. General manager Paul Wright, resident manager Patrick Verove and director of sales and marketing Jenny Kim took us for a complete tour of the new wing, ending with a wonderful lunch in the Grand Café. This hotel is now the perfect property. — Fran Gallagher, publisher and CEO
