Touring the Boeing Factory

Last week, Global Traveler‘s publisher and CEO Fran Gallagher and I made a trip up to Seattle for a few days of meetings and to hopefully eat some great seafood. Both were a success!

On Wednesday afternoon, we drove about 45 minutes to Everett, Wash., for a special VIP tour of the Boeing factory. With protective glasses on, our guide started the tour in the largest building in the world, measuring by volume — approximately 472,000,000 cubic feet. Trust me in saying we were happy to be seeing this from our trusty motor cart.

The tour gives you amazing views of the 777, 747 and 787 in different stages of production. You are able to see the the magnitude of not only the size of the plane but the planning and manhours it takes to build and test.

photo 3With all of the work to be done, I was happily surprised to see how neat and orderly the entire facility is. The rows are divided for carts, pedestrians, and even bicycles. The onsite Seattle’s Best Coffee shop, situated right in the middle of the plant, was hopping with customers enjoying a break.

This tour is available to the public; and if you are a fan of flying, aircraft, technology or anything big, it is a must-see!
