After two years of anxiously awaiting the release of The Herro’s Journey, my buddy Tony and I attended its premiere last week. It surpassed our high expectations.
Produced by David Vox Mullen (a Talking Travel interview guest a few months ago) and directed by Danny Reyes, it is the story of David Herro, a man who has worn many hats in and out of the entertainment business. More importantly, it is the story of a man and his son.
When Vox first told me about this project, I knew Reyes and he were the perfect folks to show the man Herro is. As the project progressed, despite all involved being humble, I could tell they were proud of it.
The night started with a gathering on the red carpet outside The Bend Theatre in West Bend, Wisconsin. Vox, Reyes, Herro and his son Kal took pictures, did interviews, greeted guests and smiled a lot. When it was time for the documentary to start, the large crowd filled the theater.

For the next two hours, The Herro’s Journey took us from Herro’s start in local media. A radio show and television show led to Herro promoting events. All the while, his son was omnipresent. Even as a toddler, young Kal had charisma and poise beyond his years.
I first met the two Herros about 15 years ago. Right from the start, they made me feel like one of their #Superfriends (the name they call their circle of friends). I admired their relationship and watched it grow over the years. It’s truly heartwarming and the real core of the documentary.
The documentary shows highs, such as Herro’s successful promotions, and lows, including Herro discussing his mother’s death. That was one of the rare times he was without a smile. Even in telling of his battle with neuropathy, including losing several toes, Herro wore his usual grin. Of course, his biggest smile was saved for discussing Kal, now an adult breaking into the entertainment business.
After the showing, the four men were joined by great friend Al Snow for a Q&A hosted by newsman Mike Curkov. As I sat there, I felt so good knowing these were all my friends. I a, lucky to know all of these great people.
The fantastic day actually started when we stumbled on Riley’s Sandwich Co. & Social House for lunch in Milwaukee. The dog-friendly pub features a wall of dog photos along with amazing sandwiches. This is definitely going to be a regular lunch spot when in Milwaukee.

One of Paris’ most elegant addresses has reopened following a full renovation. Hôtel de Sers, part of the B Signature Hotels & Resorts portfolio, was once the private mansion of Henri-Léopold Charles, Marquis de Sers. Located within the illustrious Triangle d’Or, close to the Champs-Élysées and Avenue Montaigne, the property’s refined décor and original Haussmannian architectural elements have been carefully preserved. These include a spectacular marble staircase and the structure’s original carriage entrance, along with period features such as wrought-iron details and magnificent moldings and ceilings of the original salon de réception.

Cape Town is not only one of the capitals of South Africa but also the oldest city in the country. Cape Town hugs the Port of Cape Town in Table Bay, extending to the Hottentots Holland Mountains. The city endured years of segregation during apartheid, including uprisings. Today the city continues to rebound in a post-apartheid era, with many major companies headquartered in the city center, popular beaches teeming with visitors in warmer months, engaging museums and aquariums, and a thriving tourist industry promoting the city’s culture and natural beauty.

Blending with its Montrose neighborhood like the indigenous and cultivated plants hugging the property’s walkways, the newly built Hotel Saint Augustine opened mid-January 2025. The first Bunkhouse hotel in Houston, Texas, is easily mistaken for garden apartments. Seventy-one guest rooms and suites encompass a tree-lined block. The hotel’s buildings are only two stories tall and also house a lobby, lounge, restaurant and event space. Tucked into a corner of the grounds sits a circular outdoor pool.
