I recently began the 2012 spring semester of my graduate school program at St. Joseph’s University, choosing to take a Food Writing course this semester. The class is quite interesting and it has sparked my food memories, causing me to reminisce on some of the best meals I’ve had while traveling.

Topping the list would be my day spent at London’s Borough Market, tasting samples from booths and indulging in raclette, a cheesy potato dish I’d drooled over all day as I watched other wanderers enjoying their own. That night, I enjoyed a feast of foods acquired during the day — crusty bread, figs, Parmesan cheese, wine and Spanish ham.

Another memorable food experience from my travels was the chocolate brunch at The Langham Hotel in Boston. I definitely have a sweet tooth, and my eyes bulged with wonder when I stepped into the chocolate lover’s paradise. Anything you could think of chocolate, it was there — from sandwiches to ice cream.

I had a number of enjoyable meals while in Singapore, but my favorite was our traditional Singaporean breakfast of kaya toast and eggs. The sweet kaya jelly and butter, smeared on toasted bread, was even tastier once dipped in the eggs and soy sauce. This meal was so good, I took kaya jelly to go.

In Sicily, I clearly remember the succulent fruit I was eating, having just been picked off the trees surrounding me as I sat outside. On the British Virgin island of Anegada, we had an outdoor lobster roast.

There are more memories of meals shared with fellow travelers around the world, but those are just a few of my tastiest memories.
