Although it is still a little bit chilly outside, Sunday marked the beginning of spring. New destinations beckon as the warmer weather arrives. Springtime begs for destinations such as Savannah, Ga., the city I visited last spring for a family wedding. The call of spring brings me back to this historic town as it is the perfect place to visit around May or June. What makes this historic Southern city such an idyllic place to visit as the weather warms up? For one, the Spanish moss-covered trees give a marvelous decoration to the city streets. This pairs nicely with the glow of the flowers planted throughout the historic city. Spring is also the perfect time for the famous Savannah riverwalk, which gives a surprisingly secluded view of the water. It is important to get there before the heat and humidity of summer kick in. While I was visiting, we went to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, where we saw a variety of animals, including alligators and swans. Aside from its natural beauty, Savannah also has much to offer in the way of shopping, architecture and history. Through this, Savannah is a convergence of the natural world and human design, definitely the city to visit in the southeastern United States around this time of year.
