Spending Time in St. Louis

My friends and I spent a fun weekend in St. Louis. Of course, for us that means a couple of baseball games. Usually on trips I cheer for the home team. However, the Cardinals were playing my hometown Cubs. Since the Cardinals won all three games, maybe I should have just rooted for the home team.

Although the baseball was a disappointment, the rest of the trip was great. We went to the top of the Arch, 630 feet above the ground. On a clear day, you can see for 30 miles. We had a pretty clear day and enjoyed the views.

We also visited the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. Completed in 1914, it houses the world’s largest collection of mosaic art. You don’t have to be religious to appreciate the beauty and history here. It is simply awe-inspiring.

Completely by accident, we stumbled upon the 2011 Rock 66 Festival. This fest is a mix of classic cars, excellent food and live music. The only complaint was that it ended around 6 p.m. We would have liked to spend the whole evening here.

Naturally, any trip I take has to involve some quality food. This time, we found it at Rosalita’s Cantina. The best part of Rosalita’s is they don’t get too fancy. They serve the basic Tex Mex, but they serve it fresh, big and full of flavor. Everything was great, but their jalapeno corn muffins were so good, I got a couple to go.

St. Louis is about 5.5 hours away from Chicago. It makes for an easy getaway weekend, and my friends and I try to make this trip twice a year. Those corn muffins were so good, I might have to return sooner.

Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a small town that’s big on historic landmarks, buildings, parks and Western lore. Many of its most fascinating structures also happen to be hotels, including Bishop’s Lodge, which extends the city’s specific charms from the streets into the public areas and private suites and rooms. While most of the properties within historic buildings are upscale, Bishop’s Lodge is now a member of Auberge Resorts Collection thanks to a painstaking restoration, luxury appointments, commitment to personal service and wide range of exclusive activities.
