I must say it’s pretty amazing to see how “selfie” became such a well-known term. We may not realize, but in the travel industry, it is also quite relevant. I know from personal experience social media feeds are often loaded with selfie pics from vacations, business trips, study abroad, spring break, destination weddings and more travel related events. This week, I checked into the Marriott Stanton South Beach, a wonderful property conveniently located on Ocean Drive in the heart of Miami Beach. A beachfront hotel, the Marriott Stanton offers beautiful views of the palm tree-lined Miami beach and water. Taking in the beach views on my first morning at the hotel, I looked down to notice I was standing on a large circular “spot” on the ground of the property reading “Selfie Spot” that included a trendy photo of guests at the pool with the list of the hotel’s social media tags and a #StantonSelfie hashtag. I learned later the spots, placed in several areas of the hotel, are suggested areas for taking a selfie. I have never seen this before, but I found it to be very clever and smart! This allows guests to link to the hotels social media pages, all while promoting the property and sharing their experience at the hotel. What better way to do this than with a selfie! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay Marriott Staton South Beach and would certainly return.
