Sarasota Favorites

One highlight of my summer has been all of the opportunities I have had to travel and explore, both for business and leisure. I know this is kind of a taboo statement considering all of the travel restrictions, but I think it is okay to appreciate opportunities and your own journey. I am so grateful mine opened doors to visit new cities, eat new cuisines and explore new cultures.Sarasota

My most recent adventure is one we call “bleisure” travel — a mix between business and leisure travel. My colleague and I got the opportunity to visit FXExpress’s newest office in Sarasota, Florida, at the end of July.Sarasota

While work was our biggest priority, we also made a point to enjoy our time in a city I had never had the chance to visit until now.Sarasota

Some of my favorite eats:Sarasota

By the Bay Bistro: Lovely owner and barista; I enjoyed the ham and egg sandwich on a sesame bagel each morning. It also helps it was in the same complex as our new offices!

Ophelia’s on the Bay: Wonderful and attentive service; I loved the mussels and calamari we tried as an appetizer. Do not leave without trying the eggplant crêpes!

The Point: Talk about lunch with a view! I enjoyed a view of the dock and bay while we ate a fresh Caesar salad topped with a crab cake.

As a self-proclaimed “foodie,” I use vacation as a complete excuse to find yummy treats and good food wherever I am, although this time I’d like to give a shoutout to my colleagues Yasser and Carrie for these fun finds. It’s always good to have co-workers with the same delicious passions.

Until next time, Sarasota,

Cheers!

What Maui Visitors Need to Know

There’s a lot happening on the beautiful island of Maui and recovery from the devastating fires in Lahaina is underway. Among happy events is a gorgeous cultural redesign of all the suites and villas at Fairmont Kea Lani, plus the opening of the resort’s Hale Kukuna — a 2,000-square-foot cultural center that focuses on sharing Hawai’ian culture, traditions and history, with the goal of a reciprocal sharing of ‘ike (knowledge) and mo’olelo (stories) that link the island’s storied past and vibrant present.

Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History

All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.
