My family and I recently took a good, old-fashioned family trip to Lake George, New York, as per my father’s request. He went 40-plus years ago when he was a kid with his uncle and brothers and had the best memories of the lake and quaint town.
Ready to take in some fall foliage-filled views, we all agreed, based on little planning and information. Upon discovering the luxury and old-fashioned, private club-meets-camp vibes of the 4-star Sagamore Resort on Lake George, all of a sudden everyone was on board and we were packing up the car.
Technically in the tiny town of Bolton Landing, New York, 10 miles down the road from Lake George proper and just how my father remembered it, the Sagamore is tucked away from the main drag, a short bridge away. Essentially its own island on Lake George, the Sagamore is a luxury playground.
Collect your fresh-pressed cider and apple sugar cookies at check-in and settle in for some serious fall feels.
Between the heated pool and hot tub outside; heated pool and hot tub inside; full fitness center; spa and salon; several on-site bars and restaurants; ample Adirondack chairs; rows of lounge chairs overlooking the lake; complimentary boat tours of Lake George on The Morgan; rec center complete with tennis courts and pitcher’s mound; and bonfires, live music and more by night, there’s almost no reason to leave the resort.
My sister and I were determined to head out on a hike and peeled ourselves away for Pinnacle Trail View. The fall foliage backdrop and crisp air was well worth the miles.
The Sagamore offers enough resort activities to entertain and leisurely pursuits to soak in at your own pace but also close proximity to the quaint family fun of Bolton. Enjoy the complimentary Champagne toast in the lobby at 4 p.m., and don’t forget to grab your homemade apple pie at check-out! Seriously, it’s literally an entire apple pie.

Apr 17, 2024Mindfulness City in Kingdom of Bhutan Unveiled as Future Economic Hub
In front of an audience of 30,000 Kingdom of Bhutan residents and officials, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck presented his vision for a new economic hub in Bhutan. Located between India to the south and China to the north, Bhutan is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Bhutan came late to global tourism. It opened its borders to international visitors in 1974 and, while tourism definitely increased, residents are enduring “light” rush-hour traffic in Thimphu, its capital city, as the only Asian capital without traffic lights.
