This past weekend I had the chance to go to the Poconos in Pennsylvania for my family’s annual weekend on Fairview Lake. Every summer my immediate and extended family drives up to enjoy the weekend that allows us to reconnect through no shortage of lake activities.

Part of the reason I go is to get my wakeboarding fix, as you can see in the photo. This side of my family is big into water sports; and since I grew up coming here every summer, I had no choice but to learn at a young age.

Outside of wakeboarding, we got to water ski, jet ski, kneeboard and paddleboard, so by the end of the day on Sunday my legs were sore enough not to go back for another year.

I look at it as my annual weekend to disconnect — there is hardly any cell phone service and not many places to go outside of where we were. It allowed me to see a lot of family members who I haven’t seen in a long time, which I always appreciate.

We were even visited by the black bear that lives in the woods behind our house, as unsettling as that is!
