Conrad Hotels recently put out a press release for its Pillow Menu. Conrad Hotels & Resorts offer a variety of more than 75 pillows at their properties, which is pretty nifty. I was a little disappointed to find out that you don’t actually get a physical menu and you can’t order them as if it was room service. The idea, it seems, is that most of the Conrad properties around the world have one or more specialty pillows they offer to their guests. I guess it would be a logistical nightmare for housekeeping to have to keep that many extra pillows on hand. It would be cool, though, if when staying at the Conrad Centennial Singapore you could order up the Conrad Brussels’ organic buckwheat pillow, or if the Brussels guest could try the Singapore edition of a porcelain (yes, it’s ceramic) pillow. Other specialties at various hotels are the Cold and Flu pillow at the Conrad Chicago — it’s infused with four essential oils to relieve congestion, reduce body aches, and improve your mood — and the hypoallergenic water pillow at the Conrad Miami. I’m allergic to feathers and down, so I’ve learned how to say that in a whole bunch of languages. It’s a drag sometimes to get to a great hotel room with fluffy pillows and a beautiful comforter only to learn that they are all stuffed with down, and then get a tiny foam pillow replacement and a beat-up blanket as a substitute. I’m not one of those people who carries a pillow with me wherever I travel, though; it’s way too bulky, a little too precious, and I wouldn’t want to sleep on the inflatable kind. I usually find that if all else fails, there’s either a throw pillow made of foam or some fluffy towels that I can stick into the pillowcase. Have any of you had a similar experience? Most Conrads have several pillow options, so I guess you can ask about the “pillow menu” when you visit one; just don’t expect 75 options. –Mary Hunt, editor, eFlyer
