Last week, the GT staff attended the annual Global Business Travel Association convention in Orlando, Fla. Each year it is a great opportunity to catch up with clients and friends and learn more about breaking travel industry news. Here’s a bit of what we learned is to come this year from some of your favorite travel providers. LOT Polish Airlines is planning a large-scale expansion over the next five years. In 2016, the airline will launch service to Tokyo, Bangkok and Seoul, with two more new routes soon to be announced and at least one expected to be in North America. In addition to enhancing the business-class product and experience and growing lot.com, the airline hopes to achieve a 4-star SkyTrax rating. Choice Hotels announced the opening of a Cambria in Orlando, catering to an upscale convention traveler. The recently revamped Cambria brand now appeals more to upscale business travelers, and at the hotels, “everyone is somebody.” Focus is on meeting space and in-room technology as well as social spaces and unique restaurant concepts. I was taken by Hilton Worldwide’s recent partnership with Stop Hunger Now. The companies organize meal-packing events for travelers at select properties to help build community among business travelers staying at the hotels and allow them to participate in community outreach. For two hours on select nights throughout the fall at select U.S. properties, volunteers pack meals while the hotels provide fun, community and refreshments. I also learned more about Airbnb’s program for business travelers. The company now offers a suite of new tools and services within the program, including enhanced visibility, easier and more advanced reporting and central billing. Companies enrolled include the likes of Google and Facebook, and from its 2014 launch with 250 companies, the program has now more than doubled in enrollment. — Kim Krol, managing editor
