On Monday, I had the opportunity to attend my first New York Fashion Week event as a guest of Alitalia. I was eager for the opportunity to get a first-hand glimpse at the events I usually only see from photos online.
Alitalia partnered with Etihad Airways in a global agreement with WME | IMG to become major long-term partners with the fashion industry by supporting 17 fashion week events around the world annually. Etihad Airways is the official airline of fashion week events in New York, London, Milan, Berlin, Sydney and Mumbai. Alitalia, part of Etihad Airways Partners’ seven airlines, is also party to the agreement. At New York Fashion Week, some of the group’s events included The Shows and MADE Fashion Week.
The fashion collection presentation I attended with Banu Yilmaz was part of MADE, which is a platform dedicated to emerging local talent in New York. Ji Oh, an international fashion designer born in South Korea, moved to New York City in 2005 to attend Parsons Design School. At the presentation we caught a glimpse of the Spring 2017 collection, described as pure with crisp whites and clean lines. The collection explored different ways to extend shirting, whether with grommets and brooches or through mandarin collars and other design elements.
Etihad announced an extension of the commitment by collaborating with Jimmy Choo. The airline celebrates the designer’s 20th anniversary with events at John F. Kennedy International Airport and in New York City.
