As the New Year kicks off, we all know a long list of resolutions typically follow. This year, I am looking forward to getting on a healthier track, and I now have a little added help thanks to my new Garmin Vívofit. I already make an effort to stay active, and quite honestly, I wasn’t too interested in the fit bracelet trend until Global Traveler‘s Fran Gallagher had the great idea of gifting the GT team the bracelets this holiday. Now that I have one, I couldn’t be more into it! The band provides daily counts of steps, goal steps, calories, time, date and mileage. I didn’t realize how unaware I was of my daily movement throughout the day. Of course, we can all be aware of when we go for a run, take a class at the gym or work out with a trainer. However, I realize I have been missing the opportunity to burn calories and to stay moving throughout the workday as well. Even if it is to get up from my office desk for a 5-minute stretch and walk around the office, the Vívofit bracelet is a great tool to remind us it is important to break the habit of sitting all day. In the business world, we all know how easy it is to sit at our desk all day and get caught up in our work. The Vívofit shows a red signal when you are sitting for an hour or longer. I must say, each time I noticed the signal, whether it be in the office or at home, I have made a point to get up and move around a bit. It pays off, because although I may feel relaxed and content while sitting, I realize this often leads to me losing energy and focus. Yesterday, I joined members of GT‘s team to kick off our January challenge. We will be able to track our steps via the Garmin Connect site and compare amongst those participating. I think this is great way to begin the year and to motivate each other to get moving! — Olivia Falcione, advertising manager

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
