As a film buff, there are few locations as satisfying to live as New York City. With the multitude of independent film theaters and classic film resources at your finger tips, there is practically no place at no time that you could more enjoy being a movie fan . . . except for one: Park City, Utah for 10 days a year is quite literally a winter wonderland of movie magic as the Sundance Film Festival sets its circus down on Main Street.
Whether skiing through 18 inches of fresh powder at one of three resorts in town (Canyons Resort, Park City Mountain Resort, and Deer Valley Resort) or hustling to your next movie screening by way of a quick craft beer at the Wasatch Brewery, it is impossible to escape having an amazing time in Park City.
Taking place the last week of January each year, the silver screen comes to life as film stars roam as freely and ubiquitously through town as actual stars in the winter night heavens. This past January when I attended Sundance, we had just come from a screening of Australian indie film Wish You Were Here to go out for the evening when we encountered the cast from the very film we just saw entering the pub behind us.
Surreal to be sure, but one look is never enough to grasp the magnificent simplicity of this quaint Utah burg. As the theme of Sundance 2012 offers with edifying sincerity: Look Again.
