After the conclusion of GBTA in Dallas, I met up with my friend Elizabeth, who recently moved to the city, as well as my sister, who was also visiting for a few days. I had decided to extend my trip by an extra day to do some more sightseeing as well as pay her a visit. As I had a flight early the next morning, we made sure to fit in as much as we could on my last day.
Elizabeth had to finish some of her work for the day, so my sister and I went to lunch at Las Palmas for some tacos and drinks, followed by a trip to go see The Eye, a giant eyeball sculpture, in the downtown area. We then made our way to the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza to learn more about the JFK assassination. Lunch was delicious, and the eyeball was exactly as it sounds, while the museum was fairly interesting to walk through, especially when they touched on the conspiracies as to who actually committed the crime.
Following the museum, we returned to the house where the three of us enjoyed some Dom Perignon by the pool, feeling as bougie as ever walking through the gardens with our Champagne! After our swim, we got ready for dinner at Carbone’s VINO, where we had the Spicy Rigatoni and Rock Shrimp Orecchiette to share.
As our last stop of the night, Elizabeth took us to one of her favorite spots, Katy Trail Ice House, for a drink and some laughs before heading home for the night. The next morning I had to get up early for my flight, but I was thankful to have one final day in Dallas and spend time with friends.

May 6, 2024Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History
All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.
