I recently had the opportunity to attend a press luncheon and presentation by the States of Bavaria and Baden–Württemberg and the German National Tourist Office.
The luncheon was held in Philadelphia at the award-winning steakhouse, Ocean Prime. The upscale chain is known for its sophisticated décor, premium wine list and classic steak and seafood menu.
When I first arrived, I was shown to the bar area where representatives from the German Tourist Office and other attendees mingled. I enjoyed a glass of Peter Mertes 2015 Riesling from Mosel, Germany, and it was delightful.
We then proceeded upstairs to a private room surrounded by various wine bottles. I particularly fancied the décor, such as the chandeliers and other light fixtures.
We were greeted by goodie bags on our chairs which included a Playmobil of Martin Luther, a Black Forest Cake flash drive which included the days’ presentations, felt coasters, booklets and more.
We were first served a delectable Caesar salad and alternated between presentations and courses. Before the first presentation began, we selected an entrée; and I opted for the filet with haricot vert and creamy whipped potatoes in a Cabernet jus. Other options included Freebird Farms chicken and teriyaki salmon. For dessert, a peanut butter torte with chocolate ganache was served.
Throughout the presentations we learned all about the Danube, Europe’s second-largest river and its stunning natural landscapes, culinary specialties and fun outdoor activities.
Overall, the German National Tourist Office hosted an excellent luncheon and couldn’t have chosen a better venue than Ocean Prime.
