I am writing to you from Hong Kong, and how I got here was a new experience for me! I flew China Southern Airlines out of Los Angeles (LAX) on the carrier’s new Airbus A380 aircraft to Guangzhou (CAN), and it was a great experience. 

During take-off, I first noticed the difference a large aircraft can make. Ascending was so smooth I barely felt a shudder or change in altitude, which calmed my nervous-flyer habits. The interior cabin was also quiet, with little engine noise.

China Southern’s A380 is designed in a classic white and cream theme with the business-class seating on the second level. As the A380 is a new aircraft for me, the idea of a stairway on an aircraft was a pretty awesome experience. The seats are in a staggered formation, so you essentially have your own private area with a tabletop separating you from the busy aisle. Against the window, each passenger is given two deep storage bins, which kept my shoes, laptop and iPad from moving around during the flight and within easy reach. The 180-degree lie-flat seat was comfortable and perfect for sleep. Although there was no turn-down service, the seat came with a comforter, blanket and two pillows.

The dinner service was efficient, and the lobster tail for my main course was very good. I was not given a wine list, but the white wine was a French Chardonnay that went well with dinner.

With a friendly staff and an on-time arrival and departure, my experience with China Southern was very positive.
