My husband and I look to Philadelphia Magazine’s seasonal 50 Best Restaurants list to find new dining experiences in the city. While we’re far from visiting all 50 on the list, we are slowly making a dent in some of the city’s best places. We recently dined with friends at Friday Saturday Sunday in the city’s Rittenhouse neighborhood. The restaurant is popular both for its cuisine and bar program.

We arrived to dinner on time for our reservations and were immediately seated on the intimate second floor. We quickly decided to split a bottle of Lambrusco and asked our waiter for advice on the menu. He suggested splitting a few small plates, as dishes are served family-style. Instead, we decided to share everything, as there were too many tempting options.

Complimentary bread with rich butter arrived at the table first. From the smaller-plate menu we ordered scallop ceviche, beef tartare and mussel toast. I was the most apprehensive about the toast, which turned out to be one of my favorite dishes. The cooked mussels on crusty toast were topped with garlicky sauce — a standout. From the pasta selection, we enjoyed seafood bucatini and pork gemelli. These two were easily the best dishes of the night and quickly disappeared from the plates. We had cauliflower and collard greens from the vegetable section. We dined on roasted chicken and New York strip steak for our entrées. Both were incredibly tender and flavorful. Because we wanted to end on a sweet note, we ordered the black and tan sundae — a brownie combination with ice cream — for dessert. Friday Saturday Sunday is a must if you’re looking for a nice night out with friends or your partner.
