Two weekends ago, I attended a David Bowie tribute concert at the Scottish Rite theater in Collingswood, N.J. Proceeds from the event went to the Collingswood Bike Share program. The bike share offers bike rentals for an annual $25 fee. Participants can borrow a bike for a short or extended period of time. Volunteer mechanics offer free repairs and clinics to keep bikes running well.

Local restaurants, including Indeblue and DiBartolo Bakery, supplied food for the evening. Iron Hill Brewery provided beer. Small businesses in Collingswood donated items for a raffle drawing, also to benefit the bike share. We arrived about an hour before the doors opened so we could take advantage of the food and raffle. 

A 1970s glam rock tribute band, Candy Volcano, performed the entire Ziggy Stardust album. The theater is beautiful, with stained-glass windows in the staircases and the auditorium. The space seats more than 1,000, though it still feels intimate — there isn’t a bad seat in the house. We had fun watching the energetic band perform, and we sang along with the enthusiastic crowd. The show was a blast. I enjoyed checking out a new concert venue and hope to see another show there again soon!
