Bad Service

by Kimberly Inlander

Feb 23, 2011

Last Saturday might have been the final straw for me in regard to my former favorite Italian restaurant.  I am so frustrated because the food is so good but the service is getting increasingly bad. When we called to make reservations, the host said there wasn’t a crowd and we would have no problem.  When we arrived 15 minutes later, we had to wait another 15 minutes because a crowd apparently just showed up.  Then the server messed up our drink order.  Our soups and salads took a while but were fine.  When the pizza came, it was missing two of the three toppings we requested and the third covered the whole pizza, instead of just half as we ordered. This is just the latest bad experience with this place.  With no exaggeration, lately they have made mistakes on our orders (whether dine in or take out) over 50 percent of the time.  That’s just far too many mistakes to be overlooked. I understand a random bad experience and I am generally a non-complainer at restaurants, but I expressed my displeasure to the manager who basically blamed the economy for having bad workers. It seems that I am left with no other option than to not go back there, which is unfortunate, since their food (when right) is great.  I guess I’ll take a few months’ hiatus from patronizing them.  Maybe when I return, things will be better.  Who knows, I might even find an Italian place I like better. I know our readers eat out often.  I would love to hear how any of you have handled similar situations and what the ultimate outcome was. — John Wroblewski, distribution specialist

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
