I often speak of how Global Traveler started. There are so many stories about the staff — we all have this incredible sense of humor. I think it has helped us get through some of the more challenging moments that come with launching a publication, especially when all the odds were against us. We also had this mentality, which I liken to Fletcher Christian, who navigated the Bounty to an island mischarted on the British charts (Pitcairn Island). Like Fletcher Christian, we burned our ship in the harbor because there was no turning back. This mentality helped us succeed. As I said, there are so many stories — Lisa Matte’s karate moves, Alex Young’s cell phone tossing antics, Kim Krol’s flipping tendencies and Dick Evans’ love for the Peninsula Chicago! All are our inside stories and very funny! The key to Global Traveler‘s success is a staff of dedicated people pushing the envelope to its limit. This is what brings us a step above others in our competitive niche.
