On Saturday, Nov. 19, thousands of runners, including myself, will stampede through the historic streets of Philadelphia for the 11th Annual Half Marathon. This will be my first 13.1-mile race. Based on the map, the course seems pretty challenging. Winding through Old City, Center City, across the Schuylkill, through Fairmount Park and ending by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, there will be Philadelphia landmarks and top-notch sightseeing throughout.
I had an early preview of the race while running through Fairmount Park over the weekend. The fall foliage is still in full bloom and the city was picturesque. It isn’t every day in Philadelphia you see people on horseback, but the Schuylkill River Trail lends to the possibility.
This race weekend will see thousands of onlookers and supporters lining the streets, cheering runners on Saturday as well as Sunday, for the full Philadelphia Marathon.
With my own race finishing near some of my favorite dining spots in Center City, I will keep my eye on the prize . . . post-race brunch, obviously.
