With the holiday season and the end of 2014, AAA made its annual travel forecast for holiday travel. AAA projects 98.6 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles during the holiday travel period, defined as Dec. 23 through Jan. 4. This marks a 4 percent increase over last year and the highest peak since 2001. More than 90 percent of travelers will be hitting the road to reach their destination. The national average cost of gas is $2.55, 69 cents less than this time last year. Hotel and car rental rates, however, are on the rise.
