This morning I attended a special media preview of the Chicago Auto Show. It started with a wonderful breakfast in the Grand Ballroom, heading into the exhibition halls.

Debuting in 1901, CAS is the largest auto show in North America. This year is the 114th CAS, more than any other auto show in North America. Held in two halls at McCormick Place along the lakefront, CAS occupies more than 1 million square feet.

Media Preview is always my favorite day. It provides a chance to roam the show floor without large public crowds. With just the press contingent, it was easy to check out any vehicle inside and out. It does lack the buzz of a large crowd, though, but I experience that on other days when I return. Media Preview is filled with vehicle-maker news conferences, social media events and first looks at new vehicles.

Open to the public Feb. 12–21, there are hundreds of new vehicle models on display, including concept cars. The technology of cars and accessories is amazing, and unbelievable innovations continue to develop.

Test drive areas are on the perimeter, while 7th Heaven, other musical acts and celebrity appearances are scheduled throughout CAS. Versiti hosts the 24th Annual Dennis Buckley Memorial Blood Drive.

I am not looking for a new car, nor am I even a “car guy,” but I always attend CAS. There’s no other place to see all of these vehicles, even if I have no plan to purchase one. The spectacle of CAS is enough for me.
