Like a little sauce? You’re in for a treat June 9–10, when the 16th annual Big Apple Barbecue gets underway in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park. Entrance to the event is complimentary, though a FastPass can be purchased (a limited number is available), allowing attendees to choose a shorter line option at each barbecue station. The FastPass also comes with a $100 value that can be redeemed during the event. The weekend includes plenty of live music, wine gardens, beer and demonstrations.
The line-up of participating pitmasters for the 2018 edition of the Big Apple Barbecue includes Jean Paul Bourgeois of New York City’s Blue Smoke; Pat Martin of Martin’s Bar-B-Que in Nashville, Tenn,; Garry Roark and Leslie Roark Scott of Ubon’s Barbecue in Yazoo City, Miss.; Sam Jones of Skylight Inn/Sam Jones BBQ in Ayden, N.C.; John Stage of Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in New York City; and John Wheeler of Memphis Barbecue Co. in South Haven, Miss.
