Pantone recently unveiled its color of the year for 2023. The highly anticipated announcement has become a tradition, each year introducing a new color to represent the coming year. In 2021, Pantone declared 2022 to be the color of Very Peri 17-3938, a blend of purple and blue. For 2023, Pantone’s Color of the Year is Viva magenta 18-1750. A shade from the red family, this color represents a new signal of strength. Brave and fearless, Viva Magenta is rooted in nature and embraces joy and celebration.
While making 2023 travel plans, add these destinations to your list to see Viva Magenta 18-1750 in nature, art, architecture and more.
Shades of magenta and warm desert tones surround visitors when entering the experience-led Habitas AlUla. The resort blends into the region’s background, hidden among canyons and sky-high rock formations. Using locally sourced furniture, Habitas AlUla extends the hues of the desert into each detail, with spurts of magenta found throughout the resort.
From the deep and rich hue of the state’s iconic wine to the magenta sunsets over Flinders Ranges, South Australia offers many opportunities to see Pantone’s Color of the Year in action. With more than 200 wineries within a two-hour drive, experiencing and tasting the legendary wine is a must when in the region.
Stay on the continent and continue your travels to Western Australia to experience even more magenta-inspired trips. Western Australia features one of the most incredible natural phenomena in the world: pink lakes. Hutt Lagoon and Lake Hillier provide gorgeous views of the unique landscape. Hutt Lagoon lies about six hours north of Perth, while Lake Hillier sits further south. Western Australia’s Kimberley wilderness also features pops of Viva Magenta, especially at sunset and sunrise.
Head to the place the name of the color originates in Magenta, Italy. Located outside of Milan, this town earns its reputation as the place where synthetic aniline dye called fuchsine was invented. Visit the town and learn about the history of the color.
Rancho de Los Caballeros, Arizona, United States
Situated in Wickenburg and spanning more than 20,000 acres of High Sonoran Desert, Rancho de Los Callaberos provides sweeping views of a magenta-filled sunset sky. The ranch celebrates its 75th anniversary this year and, to celebrate, welcomes guests to enjoy activities like horseback riding, hot-air balloon rides and Southwestern-style cookouts on the Yucca Flats.
The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch extends across 50 acres, making it one of the most Instagrammable places in the country. Walk through a rainbow of ranunculus flowers situated on the hillside. In spring, Flower Fields hosts special events for visitors of all ages, from teatime in the gardens to yoga classes to dinners. Many sections of Flower Fields erupt into vibrant pinks, reds and magentas for a truly unique and memorable experience.
