Feature

Go under the radar for this year’s winter getaway and book a trip to the charming town of Bar Harbor, Maine. While the region’s Acadia National Park is a popular summer and fall destination, the park offers numerous activities and stunning natural beauty in the form of glistening snow-covered coasts and mountains in the winter.

For those interested in some adventure, the park offers cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on 45 miles of carriage roads and hiking trails. Rent a snowmobile and take a scenic drive to Cadillac Mountain, or explore the park on the 27-mile Park Loop Road System. For a unique experience, rent a fat-tire bike, the latest in winter trends, and pedal along the park trails. Those looking for a rustic experience can camp outside under the uninterrupted night sky from December through March.

For a break from the outdoor adventure, check out the Bar Harbor Winter Beer Fest Jan. 14, 2017, featuring regionally brewed craft beer, food vendors and fire pits to warm up and roast marshmallows. The Acadia Winter Festival from Feb. 10–12, 2017, features a variety of fun outdoor winter activities and workshops.

Warm up in Bar Harbor with some local homemade chowder or a lobster dinner, as fresh Maine lobster is available year-round. Cozy up in one of the area’s luxury hotels or bed and breakfasts. For cold-weather lovers, Bar Harbor offers unparalleled snow-covered natural beauty, winter sport, and warm hospitality, making it the ideal winter destination.
