American Airlines recently announced plans to make some behind-the-scenes improvements at its largest hub at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Firstly, American Airlines plans to build a new and larger catering kitchen to support food service demands. The current kitchen was built in 1982 and is too small to support current operations, the airline said. Construction begins in January. The $100 million project is expected to take 18 months and is part of the airport’s new Terminal F.

“In addition to more space, the new kitchen will provide updated equipment and efficiencies to improve our catering operation, which improves our reliability and provides a better experience for our customers,” said Cedric Rockamore, vice president, DFW hub operations, American Airlines.

Then, American Airlines plans to break ground in January on a new central fulfillment center as well, housing aircraft parts for the airline’s entire network. The 390,000-square-foot facility is expected to increase part request fulfillment speeds by 75 percent. The facility also allows for mail transport optimization, as part of American Airlines Cargo services.

In 2019, American Airlines expanded at DFW with the addition of 15 gates and an increase in service to 900 daily departures. The airline also introduced a flagship lounge at the airport.

“DFW remains a great source of opportunity and growth for American,” said Rockamore. “These investments will ensure we can continue to welcome the world to and through DFW for a very long time.”
