Travelers who choose to fly with American Airlines previously had the option of three ¨choice¨ add-on bundles from which to choose, each of which differs based on price, cancelation policies, change fees and other potential add-on fees. Introduced in 2012, these options have made it easier for guests to know exactly what they are getting and pay more for premium services.

The options (Choice, Choice Essential and Choice Plus) will soon be removed from American Airlines’ pricing model. The Choice fare, however, will remain and is the standard base fare including the lowest level of services offered by American Airlines. With the $58 Choice Essential option, travelers were able to check one bag and board with Group 1. With Choice Plus, passengers paid $160 per person to receive benefits that included the possibility to change flights without paying a fee, one checked bag, Group 1 boarding, same-day flight change and premium beverages.

Beginning at the end of the year, American may remove the latter two Choice options (Essential and Plus), preventing travelers from enjoying these add-on fees in bundle form and instead require passengers to purchase such benefits a la carte.
