AirAsia recently announced its intention to purchase 42 new Airbus aircraft across two new deals.
As part of two new deals between Airbus and AirAsia, the airline will purchase 12 A330neo aircraft and 30 A231XLR aircraft. Through the deal, Airbus is also agreeing to support the aviation industry in Malaysia.
The agreement includes Airbus’ initiatives to expand its maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities in the country. The agreement also includes Airbus cooperation in the Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre by funding joint research projects, including the production of sustainable biofuel.
“This is a significant day for the future of aviation in Malaysia. Airbus’s commitment to investing to expand its industrial presence here will deliver significant benefits to the economy, through job creation and by transforming industry best practice,” said Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, group executive chairman, AirAsia.
