Air China Launches China’s First Route To Cuba

Daily

Travelers wishing to connect between China and Cuba now can thanks to the launch of new service from Air China.

The carrier offers the route three times per week between Beijing (PEK) and Havana (HAV) with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The trip takes about 19.5 hours, with a stopover for refueling in Montreal (YUL).

According to Wang Yinxiang, vice chairman, Air China, the Beijing–Montreal–Havana service has filled a long-standing gap in the aviation industry between China and both Cuba and the Caribbean. The new service aims to further support the economic, trade, cultural and tourism development of the two regions and provide travelers with more convenient flight options.

The new service launch is part of Air China’s international expansion plans. In 2015, the carrier launched 29 international routes and its route network now encompasses six continents.

In the Americas, with the addition of Havana, the airline services 11 destinations, including New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Houston (IAH), Vancouver (YVR), Montreal, Hawai’i (HNL), Sao Paulo (GRU) and Washington, D.C. (IAD).

At the launch ceremony, Alberto Blanco, ambassador of Cuba to China, “extended his warm and deep congratulations on the start of the Beijing-Havana service and expressed the hope that this first ever route will benefit the two peoples and contribute to the social and economic development of the two countries,” according to the carrier in a statement.
