Air China plans to grow its international network with a new alliance with Air New Zealand and a new route to Melbourne. The carrier plans to team up with Air New Zealand on services between China and New Zealand. Under the terms of the new partnership, subject to regulatory approvals, Air China will launch a daily non-stop service between Beijing (PEK) and Auckland (AKL). The Chinese flag carrier will also continue to codeshare on Air New Zealand’s daily Shanghai (PVG)–Auckland service, which will operate exclusively with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from Aug. 24. Air China also announced plans to introduce a new route to Melbourne (MEL) in June, operating four times per week with Airbus A330-200 aircraft. The new route will increase the airline’s total number of weekly flights to Australia to 23.
