Until Nov.11, the Guggenheim Bilbao in Bilbao, Spain, presents “Joana Vasconcelos: I’m Your Mirror.” The exhibition includes 30 often humorous works by the Portuguese artist, many of which light up, move or make sounds — allowing a level of viewer participation.
The subject matter runs the gamut from gender violence to immigration. Works on display include Egeria, unfolding through the museum’s atrium, suggesting how women occupy museums, represented by fabrics, textures and color.
The large-scale I’ll Be Your Mirror is an enormous Venetian mask, while Solitaire is a huge engagement ring that’s made from glass whiskey tumblers and the rims of luxury car wheels.
