Every family has its own set of traditions around the holiday season. My family looks forward to the first weekend of December each year to get together in Pocono Mountains, Pa., for Breakfast with Santa.

The Lake Naomi Club hosts this annual event at its restaurant and clubhouse, and it’s a great excuse to meet up with close friends we don’t get to see often. The first snowfall of the year usually takes place right around that weekend, which creates a beautiful mountain setting for the event. The buffet-style breakfast is always delicious, with an attentive staff showcasing the Club’s stellar service levels. The kids enjoy crafting their own breakfast plates — with more maple syrup and whipped cream than pancakes — while the parents order mimosas and Bloody Marys.

The dining room overlooks the lake, which may or may not be frozen by early December, and you couldn’t ask for a nicer view. Once the bells can be heard, followed by the familiar ho-ho-ho’s, the kids sprint from the table to the side room, where Mr. and Mrs. Claus greet the kids with candy canes.

After Santa, there is a sleigh ride for everyone, with blankets and hot chocolate to keep warm while two horses trot around the neighborhood. The kids have tons of fun; I know the parents enjoy it just as much, if not more.
