Marriott Lights Up Shanghai Skyline with New Hotel

Marriott International adds to the lights of the Shanghai skyline with the opening of W Shanghai – The Bund. The hotel, in the heart of one of the world’s most energetic cities, offers expansive views overlooking the Huangpu River.

The hotel’s design is a blend of bold, modern features and decadent, historic character. It sits among Art Deco buildings and ancient Chinese landmarks, drawing on colonial glamour and futuristic themes.

“Shanghai is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, and its engaging nightlife, spirited fashion scene and passion for what’s new/next makes it an ideal destination for the W brand,” said Anthony Ingham, global brand leader, W Hotels Worldwide.

Upon arrival, neon light installations throughout the hotel’s Living Room — the brand’s take on a traditional lobby — greet guests. Creative art installations, such as the Melting Qipao — a representation of Shanghai’s melting-pot culture — and the welcome desk’s kaleidoscopic fixtures can be seen throughout.

The hotel features 374 guestrooms and suites, each appointed with the signature W bed, adorned with fun pillows in the shape of Shanghai’s famous Xiaolongbao dumpling and chopsticks. Thirty-five rooms are suites, including the Cloud on the Bund, with highlights such as a LED wall and a hanging bed. All rooms offer great views, privacy glass and Nespresso coffee machines.

Guests can enjoy dining and drinks at The Kitchen Table, inspired by a modern New York bistro; YEN, which showcases the next evolution of Cantonese dining; and LIQUID AT YEN, a hidden speakeasy.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
