Cunard, the operator of luxury ocean liners that offer impeccable service, dining and world-class entertainment, rolls out the red carpet for the remastered Queen Mary 2. The ship presented a royal welcome to Daphnie, the city’s most famous pet and canine ambassador of the iconic Le Château Frontenac.

The cruise line’s iconic ship sailed into Quebec to debut the $132 million redesign with new contemporary interior designs and guest experiences. The Queen Mary 2 is the only passenger vessel to carry cats and dogs and recently expanded its kennel service adding 12 new kennels for a total of 24. The revamp also extended the kennel area adding a new pet playground, expanding the outdoor area to accommodate a historic British lamppost and American fire hydrant. A full-time kennel master is available to take care of daily pet responsibilities.

Famous canines like Elizabeth Taylor’s pups, Rin-Tin-Tin and the Duke of Windsor’s dogs traveled on Cunard. To continue the 176-year tradition, Boston’s top Instagram dogs were the first to board the ship and test out the new kennels.

The ship spent the night in Quebec and then departed for Saugerties Oct. 4, part of a 10-day Canada/New England round-trip sailing from New York.

The remastering features include a refurbishment of the Queens Grill and Princess Grill suites and restaurants, the addition of 30 further Britannia Club staterooms, 15 Britannia single staterooms, five Britannia inside staterooms, the redesign of public spaces and restaurants, the introduction of The Verandah, the ship’s new specialty restaurant, a restructured Kings Court, the ship’s popular buffet area, 12 additional kennels and a complete repaint of the ship exterior and technical enhancements and structural changes.
