Alitalia and airberlin announced the signing of a codeshare agreement on more than 400 weekly non-stop flights between Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland to offer passengers more choice and greater convenience and a frequent-flyer agreement allowing guests to earn and redeem bonus miles on both route networks.. Under the terms of the new agreement, airberlin’s three daily flights from Düsseldorf (DUS) and double daily flights from Berlin-Tegel (TXL) will operate into Milan-Linate (LIN) instead of Malpensa (MXP), and the three daily flights from Vienna (VIE) operated by NIKI, the Austrian airline part of the airberlin group, will fly into Linate as well.

The carriers also agreed on select codeshares beyond their home hubs. For example, Alitalia will place its AZ code on some of airberlin’s domestic flights, including Munich (MUN) to Cologne (CGN), Düsseldorf, Hamburg (HAM) and Berlin. Airberlin will place its AB code on select domestic and international Alitalia flights via Rome (FCO) and Milan-Linate to, for example, Naples (APF), Brindisi (BDS), Reggio Calabria (REG), Alghero (REG), Athens (ATH) or Malta (MLA) as well as on some of Alitalia’s long-haul flights to South America such as São Paulo (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG).
