Boeing delivered Air New Zealand its first 787-9 Dreamliner, the latest of Boeing’s carbon-composite aircraft. Certified by both the Federal Aviation Administration and European Aviation Safety Agency last month, the new aircraft carries 38 more passengers than the 787-8 and has a range of about 8,300 nautical miles, about 450 miles more than its predecessor. New Zealand accepted the first of 10 of the $249.5 million jets. The Auckland-based carrier’s 787-9 features 302 seats and is scheduled to enter long-haul service in October between Auckland (AKL) and Perth (PER). A longer Dreamliner, the 787-10, featuring seating for up to 323 passengers, is slated for first delivery in 2018.
