Norwegian Air Shuttle will grow its fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with three additional jets for its long-haul operations. Two of the ordered 787-9 aircraft will be delivered and begin service in 2016 while the third will be delivered in 2017. Scheduled to enter commercial service this year, the 787-9 is 20 feet longer than the older 787-8 version, can accommodate 20 percent more passengers and consumes eight percent less fuel per seat than the older model. The Scandinavian carrier currently has five 787-8 Dreamliners in its fleet and has three 787-8 and six 787-9 models on order. Norwegian offers service to 126 destinations worldwide and is scheduled to launch service to New York (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) from London Gatwick (LGW) this summer.
