An original design drawing for the Concorde aircraft is on the auction block when Bonhams returns to the Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon, U.K. on April 29 for its annual sale. The technical sketch, dated Sept. 10, 1968 and signed by test pilot Brian Trubshaw, has an estimated value of $1,500–2,300.
When the Concorde prototype 001 took to the skies in 1969, it represented the culmination of a decade-long collaboration between the British and French aircraft industries. The thousands of design drawings generated from that partnership were the last such technical drawings produced for a leading aircraft project without the aid of computerization.
Oct. 24, 2013 marks the 10th anniversary of the Concorde’s final flight. Among related lots on offer at the auction is the very front point of a Concorde nosecone, which is estimated to sell for $3,000–4,500.
