Last month, my colleague and I were on a business trip in Fort Lauderdale and Miami and had a wonderful dinner at Mustard Seed Bistro in Plantation, Fla. Our experience was so surprisingly good I just had to blog about it. One of our clients suggested we meet at the Mustard Seed Bistro for dinner, and when we pulled up, we were not sure if we arrived at the right place. The Mustard Seed Bistro is a European-style café, all centered on handcarved sandwiches, fresh daily products and unforgettable flavors. Open for lunch and dinner, the café lets you indulge in healthy eating, quality and great taste, all within a value-driven range of prices. The restaurant is located in the Plantation Community Plaza across from the Broward Mall. It appears to be small and quaint from the parking lot; but once you step inside, it’s very spacious and inviting. We were warmly greeted by the staff and sat at the bar and enjoyed a nice glass of California Chardonnay.
Once our client arrived, we were seated at a table by the window and were immediately approached by our server. We were very impressed with the wine menu and the specials. To start, I enjoyed the Caesar salad, and my colleague enjoyed the buffalo and mozzarella. We both had the tuna for our entrée and it was delicious, fresh and flavorful. We shared a side of the Brussels sprouts, and they were amazing! I also noticed they have a great special Monday: no corkage fee and 50 percent off bottled wines under $80. Some of their most popular dishes include the Roasted Beet and Green Bean Salad; Shrimp, Endive & Heirloom Tomato Salad; Risotto Stuffed Pear; and the Jumbo Lump Crab and Sea Scallop Risotto.
Mustard Seed Bistro’s resident chef, Tim Boyd, is known as a gastrotician and magician and continues to receive rave reviews for his ever-changing menu and presentation. When visiting the South Florida area, be sure to check out this little hidden gem; trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
