Arrival/Check-in: After being greeted by a very friendly staff and an easy check-in, I was escorted on a tour of the 36th floor, which included the Royal Health Spa, an outside pool attached to a floating bar and a well-equipped gym open 24 hours a day. I was then taken to my room on the 24th floor, where my luggage was waiting. (28/30)

Guest Quarters: My suite had a welcoming amount of space and an elegant décor. The living room included a desk, a large plasma TV, a sofa and a fully loaded bar. The bedroom was a half-circle; three-quarters of it had windows overlooking Bangkok’s cityscape. The king-sized bed was dressed with lovely linens and eight large, fluffy pillows. (A pillow menu was available.) The bedroom had another plasma TV, a make-up table and two large closets. Down the hall was a large bathroom with a large tribal shower and a separate tub. Complimentary bottled water, assorted teas and soft drinks were replenished daily. (28/30)

Services/Amenities: The InterContinental has 381 guestrooms, including 67 Club rooms (with 24-hour butler service) and 39 suites. You can’t help but notice the traditional Thai hospitality, which makes you feel like royalty during your stay. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, including traditional Thai, Chinese and contemporary grills. The Expresso is an award-winning buffet that offers a variety of Eastern and Western dishes. The gourmet deli in the hotel serves delicious frappuccinos. (38/40)

The Experience: There is a lot to see and do in Bangkok, and the location of the hotel made my trip easy and accessible to everything. It’s ideally situated for both business and leisure travelers, with lots of shops nearby and the Mass Rapid Transit located in front of the hotel. With the help of the concierge, I even found a local massage parlor where I could get a traditional Thai massage.

Total Score: (94/100)

By-the-cabin Yachting Redefines the Cruise Experience

I wish this day could last forever!” my windswept 9-year-old exclaimed, his voice soaring over the Mediterranean. He gripped the helm of a Bali 4.6 sailing catamaran off the coast of Marseille, his sun- bleached hair whipping in the salty breeze. The scent of the sea mingled with the aroma of warm baguettes drifting from the Côte d’Azur shoreline. Our captain, a seasoned sailor, subtly adjusted course, letting my son feel the exhilarating pull of the wind against the sails. As the waves lapped against the hull, I realized this was no ordinary vacation — this was freedom, unfiltered.
