Taking a Break at The Breakers

by Katie Skrzek

We recently attended a wedding in Palm Beach, Florida, for my husband’s youngest cousin. She married her high school sweetheart in a fabulous event at The Breakers Palm Beach, where we all stayed for the wedding weekend getaway.

The resort is a destination unto itself, with a wide range of amenities from retail shops and multiple pools to a golf course and spa. Other than a brief visit to a downtown restaurant for a welcome party, we stayed on the property for our entire trip — there was so much to explore! The Breakers

We arrived around check-in time and made our way to our room. As a pleasant surprise, we quickly discovered my sister-in-law and her family were staying in the room next door, which boasted an adjoining door. We all grabbed an early dinner at pool-side Ocean House restaurant, which boasts beautiful ocean views. The Breakers

On the first full day of our visit, we gathered for buffet brunch at The Circle. With a variety of hot, cold and made-to-order dishes, it was a perfect way to fuel up for a full day of activities. All of the women in the family then made our way to The Spa for relaxation time ahead of our spa treatments. I opted for a massage, which I especially appreciated to relieve tension after busy travel days.

The wedding was absolutely stunning from start to finish, with personal touches throughout and beyond-beautiful décor. The whirlwind day flew by! Everyone enjoyed a post-wedding brunch the next morning on the property lawn followed by pool time. We all had fun swimming, lounging and simply spending quality time with each other. We ended the evening with room service and a game night with our family “neighbors.”

Our flight home was in the early evening, so we were able to spend a few more leisurely hours enjoying the property. We strolled through the shops, stopped at the family-friendly indoor and outdoor spaces, and had lunch at Seafood Bar where I (finally!) enjoyed a slice of Key Lime pie.

Our stay at The Breakers was one for the books. My husband announced it was his new favorite hotel, ousting our honeymoon stay at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora from the top spot. The service, location and amenities make it an ideal home away from home.

Hyatt Centric Las Olas Review

Today’s Fort Lauderdale is not the one you or your older relatives experienced in college; while beachfront surf shops along Fort Lauderdale Boulevard recall that colorful Spring Break era, Las Olas Boulevard embodies the city’s recent glow-up, particularly after the pandemic. In fact, it was spring 2020 when Hyatt Centric Las Olas opened its doors and played a major role in reshaping and rethinking Fort Lauderdale as a relaxed but lively vacation or business destination.
