May is a month of festivities, fairs and exciting events, and these four destinations around the world are on our list as must-visits in May.

Kakheti Region, Georgia
The birthplace of wine, this region is great any time of year thanks to its rolling vineyards, historic monasteries and Caucasus landscapes. Come May, however, you can see the region in its most vibrant, pre-summer state. On May 9–10, the region hosts the Natural Wine Festival ZERO COMPROMISE, offering visitors a deep dive into Georgia’s commitment to traditional winemaking methods. While in the region, opt for a luxurious stay around a lake at Lopota Lake Resort & Spa, fully immersing you into Georgia’s wine country. The resort even provides year-round tastings and exclusive wine experiences.

Gavi, Italy
Located in Piedmont, this region is another haven for wine lovers and slow travelers. In May, Gavi’s vineyards begin to blossom, leading to some of Italy’s most prized Gavi DOCG wines. Mark your calendar for Cantine Aperte (Open Cellars), a nationwide celebration of Italian winemaking held on the last weekend of May. On this weekend, Gavi opens its doors to exclusive tastings, cellar tours and immersive winemaking experiences. Round out the evening at La Raia, a biodynamic estate with a winery and just 12 rooms, making for an intimate experience.

El Zonte, El Salvador
A haven for beach lovers, surfers and adventurers, El Zonte is the latest rising star in Central America. The area is home to volcanic landscapes and untouched natural beauty, and May means peak surf season with the perfect swells and smaller crowds. Held in early May, Panchimalco Flower and Palm Festival, in one of the country’s oldest indigenous towns, celebrates the fusion of indigenous and Catholic traditions with live music, traditional dance and vibrant cultural displays. Stay at Wave House, El Zonte’s first high-end boutique hotel, complete with 19 oceanfront residences, an infinity pool and access to the ocean.

Ibiza, Spain
Known for its energetic nightlife every month of the year, Ibiza is especially fun in May thanks to two events. The Ibiza Medieval Fair (May 8–11) transforms the island’s historic streets into a medieval wonderland with artisan markets, costumed performers, jousting performances and live music. Then, May 15–18, GO Ibiza 2025 Festival welcomes visitors with four days of music events, pool parties and beachside DJ sets. Make the most of your time in Ibiza at Aguamadera Ibiza, an intimate, agrotourism retreat within a restored, 19th-century finca.
