Summertime is here, and what comes with it is seasonal art exhibits popping up all over the Los Angeles area. There are definitely a few that I will check out over the next few weekends, including actor James Franco’s Rebel exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. This exhibit is inspired by the film Rebel Without a Cause. Franco and other artists use film, videos, paintings and drawings to showcase the movie’s major themes including teen angst, identity and celebrity. It’s only on view until June 23, so if you are in Los Angeles check it out quickly.

By far the most exciting exhibit for me is California Science Center’s Cleopatra: The Exhibition. In its only West Coast appearance, the exhibit showcases Cleopatra-era artifacts from Egypt including huge statues, jewelry and coins. It will show the entire excavation process finding these priceless treasures involved. I heard rave reviews for this since its opening in May, most importantly from my mom who saw it last weekend and loved it. The exhibit runs through Dec. 21.
