It’s a special occasion when an airline launches a new route. I was able to join in the celebration last week at Miami International Airport (MIA) as TAP launched their Miami-Lisbon route. Festivities were in full bloom. Balloons were all around at the departure gate. TAP executives from the head office spoke, along with William Talbert, president of the Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Ambassador of Portugal to the United States. Naturally, for the airline industry, any new route is important as it increases the airline’s reach and overall revenue. Seeing two cities linked by a non-stop flight opens up tremendous possibilities for new trade ventures and tourism on both sides of the ocean. To further celebrate the launch, TAP hosted a reception later in the week and coordinated my favorite attention-grabbing spectacle, a flash mob at Miami airport!
